Sustainably Powered

Opus Plastics is powered by clean, renewable energy from our own anaerobic digestion (AD) plant. From lighting and office computers to injection and extrusion machinery, we're committed to long-term responsible manufacturing.

How it works

Collaborative & Sustainable

Opus Plastics is owned by Greendale Group and based on the Greendale Business Park, home to several enterprises that all feed into one another, forming a mini ‘circular economy’. Greendale’s farming enterprise produces the arable crops and manure that feeds Greendale’s AD Plant, which generates power for the Business Park and Opus .

Renewable Benefits

Our AD Plant provides a consistent supply of clean electricity, so we aren't affected by spikes in energy tariffs, allowing us to offer reliable production costings.

Sustainably Powered

Why this benefits you

Powering our injection moulding and extrusion machines with energy from our AD plant offers a unique advantage to our customers, especially those with sustainability goals. Manufacturing products using renewable energy, rather than relying on the grid, significantly reduces the embodied carbon of the moulded parts. Working with Opus and purchasing components manufactured using renewable energy can help your business to reduce Scope 3 emissions (those generated within the supply chain) and work towards achieving your environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals and sustainability targets.

Why use Plastic?

The versatility of plastics can meet almost any requirement from designers and customers. Plastics are lightweight and durable and their versatility in colour, touch and shape gives tremendous marketing advantages. Key Environmental Benefits of Plastic include:

  • Lightweight Efficiency: Plastic products and packaging weigh significantly less than alternatives like glass, metal, or ceramic. This low weight reduces the fuel and energy required for transportation, lowering overall greenhouse gas emissions during distribution.
  • Food Waste Reduction: Plastic packaging extends the shelf life of perishable foods and protects them from transit damage and spoilage. Because producing discarded food often carries a higher carbon footprint than manufacturing packaging, preventing food waste saves massive amounts of resources and emissions
  • Energy Savings in Buildings: High-performance plastic insulation materials used in construction save exponentially more energy over their lifetimes than it takes to manufacture them, helping reduce heating and cooling emissions.
  • Transportation and Mobility: Lightweight plastic components decrease the overall weight of cars and aircraft (such as the Airbus A380), directly improving fuel economy and cutting operational carbon emissions.
  • Support for Renewable Energy: Plastics are critical components in manufacturing durable, weather-resistant parts for clean energy technology, including wind turbine blades and solar panels.
